Finding a Job on the Net

An interactive guide to working abroad, with advice and information on contacts and useful resources.

For linguists and language teachers , this is an international Language Jobs Centre, with information on TEFL courses, all languages are dealt with at the centre, although there is a separate page for English Language Teaching (ELT) job-offers.

This is the official European Union website which includes information on finding jobs in Europe.

- www.eurojobs.com
This includes a list of vacancies by country, and you can subscribe to their jobs robot for regular updates on vacancies.

- www.eurograduate.com
This website features thousands of graduate opportunities across Europe. Also includes a range of career planning services.

- www.fas.ie
As well as Irish vacancies, the FÁS website allows you to search for vacancies around Europe. Your local FÁS office also has a EURES noticeboard advertising vacancies from other European countries.

- www.youthportal.ie
The European Youth Portal gives access to 10.000 European and national websites. Information on working and job opportunities in Europe is available in the section "Working" on the on the left hand side of the homepage.

Work Experience

- www.aiesec.org
Offers work experience opportunities in many European countries for students of business and commerce.

- www.iaeste.ie
Provides work experience placements for students of engineering, architecture and science, among others.

Contains information on applying for a stage within the European Commission.

Comenius provides funding and support to future language teachers to spend between three and eight months working as language assistants in schools in other countries.

At this site students from technical universities can register and post their CVs to companies across Europe. The database is open for browsing by those looking for a job or those looking for an internship.

- www.eurodyssee.net
This programme of the Assembly of European Regions offers young people from the participating regions the opportunity to carry out a traineeship of three to six months in a business in another European region.

- www.placement-uk.com

Placement UK is a free, specialised service that provides information on work placements available in the UK, on how to apply for an internship and get prepared for an interview.

Volunteering

Thinking of taking a year off and have experience of volunteering?
With the European Voluntary Service you can gain experience of living in another country as well as doing some worthwhile work. There are a wide variety of projects available, whatever your interests. Under this scheme, young people aged between 18 and 30 can get support to volunteer for 2-12 months in Europe.

Before you go it's worth doing a bit of research on your rights and opportunities in Europe.

This is the website of the European Commission office in Ireland. It contains useful links such as a section on your legal rights as an EU citizen.

If you're between 12 and 26 the European Youth Card is a handy thing to have in your pocket. Card holders can avail of a wide range of discounts from travel to theatres. You can apply for a youth card at your local usitNOW office or Youth Information Centre.

The Travelling section of the European Youth Portal gives access to information on travelling in thirty European countries, divided in four sub categories: country insight, accommodation, transport and spend and save.

- www.eccdublin.ie
Provides information on your rights as an EU consumer.
