31 May 2008 - World No Tobacco Day

The theme for this year is Tabacco-Free Youth. Tobacco is the leading preventable cause of death in the world. It is the only legal consumer product that kills one third to one half of those who use it as intended by its manufacturers, with its victims dying on average 15 years prematurely.

Approximately 1.8 billion young people (aged 10-24) live in our world today with more than 85% found in developing countries. Having survived the vulnerable childhood period, these young people are generally healthy.

Get your film showcased on MySpace!

This is a film competition in conjunction with MySpace, to make a film about young people's rights. The videos are posted on Myspace, and the Myspace users rate them. The shortlisted videos are judged by UNICEF.

The winner gets a digital camera, and the runner-up will get two free passes to the Showcomotion film festival!

YOUTH IN ACTION - Action 4.5. Projects supporting information activities for young people and youth workers

There has been call for proposals to support projects that draw the attention of young people and youth workers to information and communication actions with a European accent. This sub-Action supports activities at European and national level which improve young people’s access to information and communication services and increase the participation of young people in the preparation and dissemination of user-friendly, targeted information products.

Overall, these projects shall seek to encourage involvement by young people in public life and to facilitate the realisation of their potential as active, responsible citizens.
