16 nations will compete each other at UEFA EURO 2008™ in Austria and Switzerland. Alongside the championship, the FARE (Football against Racism in Europe) network will launch the initiative “Unite Against Racism”.
The campaign will reach its climax at the semi-finals in Vienna and Basel, where the four team captains will deliver an anti-racism message to be beamed into homes across the world.
Outside of the stadiums the ‘StreetKick’ game will tour five host cities with a programme of fans and ethnic minority communities taking part.
Three organisations in the scene of urban culture, i.e. European Music Office, Diversities and Music Information Centre Austria, will get together and exchange in a 3 day event of concerts, conferences and exhibitions. DIVERSIDAD! has been selected as a flagship project of the EU Year of Intercultural Dialogue and offers opportunities for artists mobility. The project aims to promote and encourage intercultural dialogue in the long term through the organisation of artistic events and panels of discussion, in the framework of urban culture and hip-hop.
There has been call for proposals to support projects that draw the attention of young people and youth workers to information and communication actions with a European accent. This sub-Action supports activities at European and national level which improve young people’s access to information and communication services and increase the participation of young people in the preparation and dissemination of user-friendly, targeted information products.
Overall, these projects shall seek to encourage involvement by young people in public life and to facilitate the realisation of their potential as active, responsible citizens.

The selection of this theme for IYD 2008 is in recognition of the fact that climate change has already begun to devastate communities and deepen the effects of poverty and hunger. This situation complicates the challenges that youth face. However, young people are increasingly adding their voices to the call for action on climate change.
